The San Diego International Airport’s Performing Arts Residency Program provides opportunities for artists and arts organizations to develop and perform original site-specific work over six months that is inspired by the airport environment. The Residency Program is internationally recognized for its innovation and has become a model for integrating local performing artists and arts organizations into an airport environment. The program is designed to create a unique airport experience for customers, provide a creative challenge for artists and showcase the region’s performing arts community to the vast audiences that the airport can provide. Performances developed through the Residency Program have included genres such as circus arts, a creative youth dance arts program and aerial dance theater.
