The Time Between: The Sequences of Minor White
Museum of Photographic Arts
2015-16
The Time Between: The Sequences of Minor White was an original exhibition and publication dedicated to the work and legacy of Minor White (American, 1908-1976). This exhibition marked the first major museum examination focusing on White’s sequences, a unique style of presentation he refined throughout his career.
One of America’s most important and influential photographers, writers and educators of the 20th century, White was a force in the field for more than three decades. Before the global transmission of images, he was a pioneer in the transition of photography from an artistic and descriptive medium into a powerful tool for communicating complex visual ideas and emotion. White established the photographic concept now commonly referred to as “visual literacy,” a way of seeing and reading photographs that remains relevant in today’s image-driven digital age.
